Well, Domain Spoofing Ad fraud is very common and a lot of big advertisers lose money due to this fraud.
To overcome this, Ads.txt was created. In simple words, ads.txt is a verification that puts your site in the list of Authorized/authentic Ad Inventory Sellers.
A lot of companies have switched and started buying ad inventory from authorized publishers and this is why you should include the ads.txt file in your root folder. Not only that, Advertisers now have options to buy ad inventory only on sites having a ads.txt file. They can ignore all sites that doesn’t have ads.txt.
So, With more advertisers switching and buying from authentic inventory, the less crowed non ads.txt inventory becomes and thus it will become cheaper for advertisers to buy from those not having ads.txt file. Moreover, big names/advertisers will stop trusting sites without ads.txt. They will buy inventory only on verified sites.
